Caught in the Act

Roman is a very sweet boy. He does, however, tend to be a little on the rambunctious side. In church this past Sunday when I went to get Roman from nursery, the nursery leader said, "Roman was good today." Now, usually hearing that your child has been good is nice. But the way she said it made me think that normally Roman is not so good. I have to admit that I've seen him climbing chairs or eating play-doh in nursery. I've also seen him teaching other kids how to bang on the wall so that it makes a lot of noise, so I guess it's not a suprise that he's not perfectly behaved in nursery. Oh well, that's why we send kids to nursery right?

These pictures are from one of the many times Roman has managed to open a door that is secured with a child lock. After he opens the door, he pulls out all the CDs stored in there, and then he spreads them all over the floor. Next, Mom or Dad comes and gets mad and puts all of the CDs away. Then he waits until Mom or Dad leaves the room and he starts again. He loves this game he's invented.

Our Darling Grace

Grace is a smart girl. Sometimes I just can't believe the things she thinks about. For example, today in sacrament meeting when they were passing the water, she leaned over and asked, "If water isn't made of anything, how did Jesus make it?" About a week ago she asked who made heaven. I told her that it's always been there and she said, "That's the strangest thing I've ever heard in my whole entire life." I can relate. Sometimes it's hard to grasp. Later today she asked how the inside of the light bulb makes the light bulb light up. I have to admit that I had to tell her that I have no idea on that one.

Grace is also Roman's idol. He follows her everywhere and tries to do exactly what she does. She likes to sing like Ariel, so Roman will sing like Ariel too. She'll dance around and then curtsy and say "Thank you, thank you." He'll do the same thing except he'll bow and his thank you sounds more like dank choo. If she's playing with Barbies, or Ponies, or Polly Pockets, he wants to play too. The poor little guy likes princess stuff more than any other boy I know. (Of course, Steve is thrilled about this. Not. He was pretty happy to learn that I bought Roman a basketball hoop that he'll get for his birthday.) Grace is a pretty good sport about her little shadow most of the time. Every once in a while she tells him to go away, but for the most part she's an excellent, and very patient big sister.

Spring is Springing!

I have to say that living in Southern Nevada has its advantages. One of them is spring in February! The temperature lately has been in the high 60s and low 70s. It's so sunny and pretty; I love it! When I dropped Grace off at school today we saw a whole bunch of daffodils blooming. Then, when Roman and I went on a walk with Clair and Jane, I noticed trees blossoming! In fact, there's one starting to blossom right outside my door. (It's the one pictured above.) I probably won't like it here so much in the summer, but I have to say I love living here now!

The Things She Says...

A few days ago Grace told me that when she grows up she wants to be just like me. I was flattered, but then she added, "But I don't want to be a mom." I asked why, and she told me that she wanted to be a vet instead. I told her that she could be both a mom and a vet, but she didn't buy it.

Later that same day Grace told me that the only animals she likes are cats. I asked her why and she told me that other animals are too slobbery. So then I asked if she still wanted to be a vet if she only liked cats. She said that she would be a vet for un-slobbery animals only.

Another thing that made me laugh was when she was telling me all about magnifying glasses, except she called them magnet-finding glasses. She's such a great girl!

The Call of the Wild

One of Grace and Roman's favorite things to do is to turn on some music and dance around the living room. A few weeks ago I found some ribbons and I gave them to the kids to dance with. Roman loves to have his ribbon tied around his head in what Grace calls "tough guy" fashion. The other day Roman went wild dancing in only his diaper and tough guy ribbon. (Wait, isn't that an oxymoron?) He's such a funny boy!

Roman's New Haircut

For a while now we've been letting Roman's hair grow out, hoping that it would look cute. Since both of his parents have curl in their hair, I thought that his would curl at least on the ends. No such luck. Instead it just fell limply into his face. We finally gave up today and decided to go get it cut.

We went to Great Clips because we had a coupon for a $5.99 haircut. First mistake. When we got there I noticed an older, pseudo-intellectual, I'm better than you are-looking man cutting hair. Now I know that it's not fair to judge someone based on appearance, but I guess I'm shallow in this area. I immediately thought, "I hope he doesn't cut Roman's hair." Not because this guy was lacking in hygene or anything. Just because he didn't have any of the style that I had hoped would go into Roman's haircut. So a few minutes later I wasn't suprised when he called us up. This was my second mistake by the way. I realized after that I should have made up some sort of excuse, like, "Hey, sorry, but my son has a phobia of men touching his hair." But no, I decided to give this guy a chance.

So he took us back to his station and asked what we wanted done. I said, "We'd like a faux-hawk." His reply, "Oh #*@!, you can't be serious!" This is where my third mistake came. I should have at that moment realized that either a. he cannot do this particular style, or b. he hates this style and therefore will not care if it looks good or not. But being the polite person I am I just smiled and said that yes that is what we wanted. Why didn't I just say that I was kidding and we just wanted a trim? This guy proceeded to whack away at Roman's hair, all the while giving us dirty looks or sighs every time Roman moved. Like he's going to sit still! He's not even two!

So anyway, Roman now has a haircut that looks worse than the one I gave him myself over the summer. For those of you who don't know the story, I tried to just trim it a little and ended up buzzing the sides and back to try to even them out. I also totally messed up the neckline. I was so embarrased! Now I realize that I shouldn't have been. I actually have the skills needed to be a great stylist for Great Clips.

Do we have a computer genius on our hands?

Last week Steve got home from school a little later than usual. The kids had already eaten dinner, so Steve and I were enjoying eating without the usual fuss of trying to feed kids at the same time. Steve had just commented about how quiet it was when Grace came in. She said, "Um, Dad, I think I should tell you that Roman is taking pieces off of your computer."

We ran into the living room and yes, Roman was in fact taking pieces off of Steve's laptop. He had managed to take almost half of the keys off of the keyboard. We don't quite understand how he figured out how to do it. Maybe he's a computer genius.

We got most of the keys back on ourselves, but a few were broken for good, and a lot didn't fit quite right. Steve had to go through a week of school typing with missing keys. We did finally get it fixed yesterday. What a crazy little boy we have! It's a good thing we love him so much.
